Responsibilities:
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting independence and confidence.
- Assist the teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
- Implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the SENCO and teaching staff.
- Use positive behaviour support strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour.
- Support the pupil in developing communication and social interaction skills, both in and out of the classroom.
- Liaise regularly with parents, teachers, and external professionals to provide consistent and effective support.
- Maintain accurate records of progress, behaviour, and interventions.
- Assist with personal care if required, and ensure the pupil’s safety and well-being at all times
Experience:
- Experience working 1:1 or supporting young people with Autism
Skills:
- Strong communication skills, including active listening and non verbal communication
- Adaptability and flexibility to respond to changing needs and classroom dynamics
- Understanding of AUtism Spectrum Conditions and relevant support strategies
- Creativity in delivering engaging and accesible learning activities
- Team work and collaboration with teaching staff, SENCOs and external professionals
- Good organisation skills to manage resources, schedules and documentation
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
Educational requirements:
- A relevant qualification such as: Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching, Level 3 Dipolma in Childcare and Education
- Additional training in Autism awareness, positive behaviour support or safeguarding is highly desireable
